When you are in pain the first that usually comes to mind is that you need to rest but prolonged resting can actually cause your muscles to weaken during the healing process, which can lead to decreased functionality and more pain in the long run. Therapeutic Exercise program targets activities that help relieve pain and restore your physical function. Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage. Therapeutic exercise is vital to recovery and to maintaining a healthy spine. Consider it part of long-term health management and risk reduction. Regular exercise is the most basic way to combat back problems.
